Big Ideas
• Science investigations begin with a question.
• Scientists use different ways to study the world, including using their five senses to make observations and inferences.
• Science knowledge helps us know about the world.
• Scientists look for patterns and order when making observations about the world.
Here is a list of the questions we answered as scientists:
- Do apples sink or float?
- Do seeds sink for float?
- What happens to a cut apple when left out?
- What is the best way to stop oxidation with apples?
- Apples and other fruit turn brown once the cut surface is exposed to air due to a reaction with oxygen in the surrounding air, a chemical reaction called oxidation.
- We also used our senses to make observations of apples and even got to use our taste buds to make some comparisons (we compared different types of apples, as well as apple juice and apple cider)
