As part of unit 4 in literacy, the students formed book clubs and read several books in that series. They became experts on the characters and were able to make predictions based on how the character typically acts. As part of their final project, students created speeches and posters, as if they were the book character. They presented to each other and also had a "gallery walk" for the first grade. They did a great job!!! The posters are hanging up in the hallway if you are in the school and want to stop down the hallway to see them. Check out the pictures of the presentations below.

We were very busy today! This morning, after an assembly, we continued to work on our money skills in math. Today we played a "grocery shopping" game where students practiced identifying coins, counting and adding the value of coins, and making change. Then this afternoon for literacy we began work on our final project. Students have read 2 or more books in the same series. They took lots of notes and became experts on the main character in their series. They identified traits and learned so much they are able to predict how their character would respond in certain situations. For their final projects students are preparing a speech and a poster to present as their character. While they are presenting, the audience will be taking notes, viewing the presentation through the eyes of their own character. I am very excited for this. There will also be a "Gallery Walk" when students from other grades will get to come in and see the students' hard work and ask them questions. |
