First, we practiced the Scientific Method. Next, we wanted to prove that states of matter can change. We started with liquids, created a chemical reaction (which we learned cannot be reversed) and created a solid. To determine if Oobleck is a solid or a liquid, we had to think back to what we learned about the properties of solids and liquids. We ultimately determined that Oobleck is a solid because it holds its own shape.
We also created an ice snowman for an activity called, "What's the 'Matter' Mr. Snowman?" We watched the "snowman" go from a solid to a liquid (due to heat). We will observe over the next few days to see if the water evaporates. Water vapor is a gas. We want to prove that some matter CAN change its state and these phase changes take place with temperature change.
