We are studying the three states of matter: solids, liquids, and gases. We have learned that matter is anything that takes of space and that each state of matter has a different molecule makeup as well as disinct characteristics. Unfortunately I didn't get an pictures of our molecule models (three kids were stuffed with balloons!). We have also learned that matter can change its state and that some things can exist in all three states (such as water). Today we combined a liquid (soda) and a solid (pop rocks). The traces of carbon dioxide gas in both ingredients caused a balloon to inflate. We all thought the Mountain Dew soda would inflate a balloon the most, but it was actually the root beer! |
