Click the buttons below to read the informational stories completed by our class. A few students are still finishing up, and theirs will be added later this week!
In second grade many of the skills/concepts we learn can be reinforced and practiced with games. Below you will find some games that you can print and play at home to practice telling time with your child.
I always tell the second graders how privileged they are, as we get to have many different guest teachers come it often! Yesterday we had Mrs. Hardy, our school nurse, come in to teach us about how to be safe in regards to medicine. We learned that medicine and candy can be very similar looking! Sometimes it's very hard to tell them apart. But even though they look the same, they have very different uses and medicine should NEVER be eaten like candy.
On Thursday, several classes in our school got to work with a woman named Lucie deLaBruere. I met Lucie at a tech conference and knew immediately that I needed to get her to our school. Lucie travels the country working with schools to bring more science and technology into the classroom. You can learn more about her here: http://learningwithlucie.blogspot.com/. She led the second graders in an activity where they got to use basic circuitry and measuring skills to create “magic wands.” Students used mini LED lights, coin cell batteries, straws, and copper tape. They explored, questioned, and problem-solved. It was amazing to watch! Our next step will be to make a switch for our wands so we can turn them on and off! On Friday we went to the library to learn about Ancient Egypt from the 6th graders. A lot of second graders have been reading about Ancient Egypt (and many about Cleopatra) during their "Read to Self" time at Reader's Workshop. We learned a lot! |
