We had a very busy day. We started the day talking about morning routines and before we knew it, it was time for Recess Rodeo. Even though it was VERY hot outside, the kids were awesome listeners. After Recess Rodeo we took some "Turtle Time" to cool down and relax. Turtle Time helps us to pull our scattered energy back to ourselves so that we can feel focused. It's a great calming strategy! All you do is put your head down and breath. There is no talking during Turtle Time.
Then we decorated our home-school folders and attendance sticks and again, before we knew it, it was time to move on to lunch and recess.
After another brief Turtle Time to cool down from recess we read "This School Year Will be the BEST!" and then wrote about why we think second grade is going to be awesome. Some responses were:
- This is going to be an awesome year because we have Field Days.
- This is going to be an awesome year because we are going to go on an awesome field trip.
- This is going to be an awesome year because we will do awesome science.
- This is going to be an awesome year because I have lots of friends in my class.
- This is going to be an awesome year because we have a new teacher.
Ask your child why they think this is going to be an awesome year!!
We ended the day with a share (what we did over the summer) and a get-to-know each other movement activity.
I am looking forward to tomorrow. It will be another day of establishing routines and getting to know each other, but all through some fun activities!
