Since today was a short week, rather than start a new Treasures Unit (which is our reading program), we decided to do some reader's theater. The standard for this week was: "I can identify different points of view in a story and speak in different voices." We read traditional fairy tales, and then the "fractured" version. Fractured fairy tales tell the original, but from the point of view of a different character. For example, we read: Honestly, Red Riding Hood Was Rotten!: The Story of Little Red Riding Hood as Told by the Wolf. We then compared and contrasted the stories and points of view. We also learned that first person point of view is told by a character in the story (some key words are: I, me, we) and third person point of view is told by a narrator not in the story (some key words are: he, she, and names of characters). Check out the videos below of the three stories the kids presented. As you will see, we are still working on our public speaking skills (we need to be louder and slower!).
