What a great first day of school!! The students worked so hard and were so respectful. I can already tell that we are going to have a FANTASTIC year!
We started the day learning our morning routine, which includes Morning Meeting. Morning meeting is a message (from me), a greeting, a share, and an activity. It helps to build a positive classroom community of learners. After morning meeting we did a quick read aloud and a few rounds of "Would You Rather?" Some of the silly questions from this game were:
- Would you rather have an ant farm or a pet snake?
- Would you rather ride a boat or a train?
- Would you rather cook the meal or clean up afterwards?
- Would you rather be a pelican or a squirrel?
I enjoyed hearing the students' reasoning for their choices.
And then, as I'm sure you heard from your now-second-grader, we spent the morning outside for recess rodeo and.....IT WAS HOT!! But despite the heat, the students did a great job listening to all the rules of the playground.
After a delicious BBQ lunch and a morning spent in the heat, we took it easy in the classroom, sharing what we did over our summer vacation by creating some "Snapshots of Summer."
