Our first math unit has begun (look for information about Unit 1 in this Friday's newsletter). Students have created beetle glyphs to learn about each other. Today we sorted the glyphs by different categories and used a venn diagram. Our math program also has "workplaces." Workplaces are constantly changing and are different games/activities that reinforce the skills and concepts we are learning. For this very first unit, the first three workplaces are more exploratory with different manipulatives (geoboards, unifix cubes, and pattern blocks).
In preparation for Reader's Workshop next week, we practiced building our reading stamina. Students will be expected to work their way up to independently reading for 30 minutes. But it takes practice to get there!
