This morning we started Reader's Workshop by learning that there's two ways to read a book -- you can read the words or read the pictures. Reading the pictures is helpful when the book is a bit challenging for us and we don't know all the words. Then we practiced our reading stamina. We were able to read for 5 minutes before we got off task. Our goal is to make it to 30 minutes! For math we made glyphs. We learned that a glyph is a way to represent information using pictures or symbols. In order to interpret the glyph, however, you need to read a key (also called a legend). We used these beetle glyphs to learn more about each other and will do more math with them throughout the week! In the afternoon we had a fundraising assembly and then did another team-building activity for science. Students worked in pairs to "Save Fred." Ask your child what they did! We then ended the day with guidance with Ms. Christine.
